“My chainsaw has a 35 cm bar” is usually not enough to choose a replacement chain. The same machine model may have different bar and chain combinations. Check the cutting equipment actually fitted.
Three dimensions must match
- Chain pitch: it must match the drive sprocket and guide bar.
- Drive-link gauge: it must fit the guide bar groove.
- Number of drive links: it determines the right chain length for the fitted combination.
Where to find the details
Check the markings on the guide bar and the packaging or part number of the old chain. Take a clear photo. Nominal bar length or a similar machine model alone does not prove compatibility.
Replacing the bar too?
The complete combination needs checking again. Check the recommended cutting equipment for the machine. Do not choose a different chain size solely on price or availability.
